If you ever get a chance to play golf in southeastern Michigan, you will want to put Timber Trace Golf Club on the short list. Timber Trace is one of most wonderful public golf courses in Michigan.

Timber Trace is located in Pinckney, Michigan, about twenty miles northwest of Ann Arbor. The golf course is located on an absolutely beautiful property. Tall pine trees majestically flow line with other’s natural beauty to see, including a car annual choking minutes between holes 12 and 13, a perfect time to mentally prepare yourself for a strong finish daily. When you take that ride, even though it will make you think you’re in northern Michigan, when in fact you are only an hour’s drive from Detroit and the suburbs sprawling!

Timber Trace is a championship caliber golf course that offers five sets of tees ranging from 5100 to 7020 yards. The track is considered a “players course” by all accounts, but can be toned down to suit the average golfer as well by using the multiple sets of tees. Immaculate fairways with undulating greens are common traits making for an enjoyable and challenging round of golf with your buddies.

The front nine starts out with a difficult but fair par 4 that sets the stage for the round. Unless you are a big hitter, the par 5′s are difficult to reach, placing a premium on strategy and ball placement throughout the round. par 3′s are also quite challenging with a variety of distances. If you play front nine with strategy in mind, you will be ready to tackle an equally challenging back nine.

The back nine starts out with the most difficult hole on the course, a long par 4 that rewards accuracy. Even if you are skillful enough to find the fairway, you will still be left with a long approach shot with water toward the front of the green. Making a good number on hole 10 will set you up nicely for the next one, a short par 4 where a birdie is very possible using some restraint and good ball placement. If you get out of the first three holes with respectable numbers, you will be in good shape for the remaining round.
